Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly will convene a one-day special session on April 30 to spotlight women's participation in Indian democracy, according to an official notification issued by the Secretariat.
Called under Article 174(1) of the Constitution, the sitting will focus exclusively on the role and contribution of women in the democratic framework. All MLAs have been asked to remain present during the proceedings.
The move follows recent developments in the Lok Sabha, where the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill was debated alongside other legislations. In the division, 298 members voted in favour while 230 opposed it, underscoring the sharp national divide on the issue.
The Odisha session is expected to add momentum to the wider conversation on strengthening women's representation in politics.
