Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced that around 800 schools across the state will be transformed into model institutions under the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.
Speaking at Kushaleswar Government High School in Keonjhar, Majhi said the initiative will equip schools with modern infrastructure, digital education tools, smart classrooms, and innovative teaching methods. "Education is not just for securing a job, but for building a life. In today's competitive era, skills, creativity and new ideas are as essential as academic knowledge," he stressed.
The chief minister highlighted Odisha's strong budgetary commitment, noting that over Rs 31,997 crore has been allocated to the school and mass education department for 2026-27. He added that 20,000 teachers have been appointed in the past 18 months, with plans to recruit another 45,000.
Majhi also announced efforts to establish Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary Schools in every panchayat, ensuring quality education reaches the grassroots.
The PM SHRI scheme, a centrally sponsored programme, aims to create safe, stimulating learning environments with robust infrastructure and resources, positioning Odisha at the forefront of India's education transformation.
