Online Preacher Priest Uploads AI-Morphed Nudes of Gujarat Girl, Arrested

Odisha Bhaskar 2 weeks ago

Ahmedabad: In a chilling reminder of technology's misuse, a Delhi-based priest who streamed religious discourses online has been arrested for allegedly creating explicit, AI-morphed images of a Gujarat woman and her mother after she rejected his friendship request.

The arrest was made by the Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Branch under its new initiative Mission Cyber Rakshika: #SecureHerSpace, aimed at protecting women from online abuse.

The accused, 27-year-old Sumit Nemchand Sharma, reportedly stalked the complainant between December 2025 and April 6. After downloading photos from her Instagram account, he allegedly used "clothes-removing" AI tools to generate over 100 morphed nude images and videos. Police say Sharma then created multiple fake accounts on Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube to upload the content and tarnish the woman's reputation.

The case came to light when the victim approached the cyber crime team. Using digital tracking and human intelligence, investigators traced Sharma to Usmanpur in North East Delhi and arrested him during a raid.

Police confirmed Sharma has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The arrest underscores growing concerns over AI-driven harassment and highlights the urgency of stronger safeguards in India's digital space.
