Mumbai: The country bid farewell to one of India's most iconic industrialists as Vijaypat Singhania, former Chairman of the Raymond Group and a Padma Bhushan awardee, passed away at the age of 87.
Known as much for his business acumen as for his adventurous spirit, Singhania's life was a blend of enterprise, philanthropy, and daring pursuits.
His son, Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Raymond Group, announced the news on X, calling him "a visionary leader, philanthropist, and inspiring personality whose legacy will continue to guide generations." The cremation will take place at Chandanwadi in Mumbai on Sunday afternoon.
Born in 1938, Singhania took charge of Raymond in 1980, steering it into a household name in men's fashion. Beyond textiles, he was a trailblazing aviator, holding the world record for the highest altitude in a hot air balloon. In 2006, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to industry.
Though his later years were marked by legal disputes with his son, the two reconciled in 2024, closing a chapter with peace before his final journey.
