Paralakhemundi: In a major crackdown on narcotics, Gajapati police uncovered a massive stash of cannabis hidden on a remote hilltop near Karigiju village.

The seizure included 113 sacks weighing 28 quintals and 11 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Rs 3 crore.

Police officials said traffickers have shifted tactics, increasingly using dense forests and hilltops to conceal contraband after earlier raids targeted homes. The operation, based on specific intelligence, was carried out by teams from Adaba and Ramgiri police stations, led by Rakesh Kumar Sahu, SDPO of R Udayagiri.

The cannabis was reportedly stockpiled for illegal transportation to other states, highlighting the scale of the trafficking network.

Police emphasized that such seizures are part of a broader effort to disrupt supply chains and curb the growing menace of narcotics in the region. Investigations into the network's wider links are underway.
