Bengaluru: Drawing the curtain on a political journey spanning nearly five decades, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation on Thursday, May 28, marking the end of his second term in office.

Siddaramaiah visited Lok Bhavan to hand over his resignation to the secretary of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who was away on a private visit.

The veteran leader informed his Cabinet colleagues of the decision during a breakfast meeting at his official residence, a move later confirmed by Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.

According to party insiders, Siddaramaiah revealed that the Congress High Command had asked him to step down. He reportedly reflected on the achievements and challenges of his tenure, thanking ministers for their cooperation.

Congress sources indicated that a Legislature Party meeting will be convened on May 29, where his successor, widely speculated to be DK Shivakumar could be named or elected.

At 77, Siddaramaiah remains Karnataka's longest-serving Chief Minister, having helmed the state for over eight years across two terms.
