Hyderabad: A routine night patrol in Telangana's Sangareddy district ended in tragedy when Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Govind Nayak was fatally run over by his own police vehicle late Monday, sparking protests and suspicions of foul play.
The incident occurred in Manur mandal under Narayankhed constituency. According to early reports, Nayak had stepped out of the patrol jeep to inspect the area when the driver, Home Guard Rama Rao, allegedly moved the vehicle forward, crushing the officer. He died on the spot.
What was initially described as a road accident has now been classified as a "suspicious death." Family members have raised questions over the official version, asking how a trained driver could fail to notice a senior officer directly in the vehicle's path.
Authorities have ordered a departmental inquiry alongside a criminal investigation. Police officials said all angles including negligence are being probed, while post-mortem results are awaited.
For now, the case remains under investigation, with both the police department and district administration promising a fair probe into the circumstances surrounding the ASI's death.
