Puri: Devotees of Sri Sri Hari Sahadeva Temple in Astaranga of Puri district woke up to shock and disbelief on Wednesday after thieves broke into the shrine and looted silver jewellery, brass utensils, and cash from the hundi.
Reports said the miscreants forced their way inside, targeting ornaments of the deity and valuables before fleeing. With no security arrangements in place, the theft has triggered outrage among locals, who fear repeated temple lootings reflect a worsening law-and-order situation.
Police have launched an investigation and are searching for leads to nab the culprits. Meanwhile, devotees demand stronger protection for places of worship to restore faith and safety.
