TMC Suspends Two MLAs Amid 'Fake Signature' Row

TMC Suspends Two MLAs Amid 'Fake Signature' Row

Odisha Bhaskar 4 months ago

Kolkata: Trouble brewed in Trinamool Congress on Monday as the party expelled two of its legislators, Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha for "anti-party activities."

The suspension order landed minutes after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari revealed that the duo had filed complaints in connection with the ongoing "fake signature" controversy in the State Assembly.

The case revolves around the endorsement of Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay as Leader of Opposition, allegedly backed by forged signatures of party MLAs. The West Bengal CID is already probing the matter.

In its communication, signed by party vice-president Chandrima Bhattacharya, TMC accused the two MLAs of skipping meetings, making statements prejudicial to party interests, and engaging in activities that undermined the organisation. "After due consideration, the competent authority has decided to expel you from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect," the letter stated.

The move has added fresh drama to Bengal's political theatre, where defections, suspensions, and probes often collide. With the CID investigation underway, the episode promises to keep the spotlight firmly on the Assembly corridors.
