In a move underscoring tensions between Congress and the White House, the US House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a resolution demanding the withdrawal of American forces from the Iran war.
The measure, approved 215-208 with four Republicans breaking ranks to join Democrats, delivers a symbolic yet stinging political blow to President Donald Trump.
"This is a loud and unambiguous message to Donald Trump on behalf of the American people: it's time to end his deeply unpopular and illegal war of choice in Iran," Democrats on the House Foreign Affairs Committee declared on X.
The vote marked the first time the Republican-controlled House has backed a measure to curtail Trump's military campaign against Tehran since hostilities began three months ago.
Democrats argue the strikes launched in February alongside Israel violated the Constitution, as Trump failed to seek congressional approval within the 60-day limit mandated by the War Powers Act.
The administration insists the war is "already over," citing an April ceasefire, though exchanges of fire continue and Trump has threatened renewed strikes.
The resolution now heads to the Senate, where Republican leaders may attempt to block it. Even if passed, the measure faces an almost certain presidential veto.
