Bhadrak: Shock and fear gripped Bhadrak district late Wednesday night after an elected ward member was brutally hacked to death and another man was critically injured in Uttaragadia village under Sarasada panchayat.
The deceased, Jagan Sahu, represented Ward No. 13. He was returning home from the market around 10 pm along with Batakrushna Sahu when assailants, allegedly lying in wait, launched a sudden attack with sharp weapons.
Jagan sustained grievous injuries to his neck, chest, and abdomen and died on the spot. Batakrushna, who tried to intervene, was also attacked and is now battling for life at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Police suspect the assault was the fallout of previous enmity. Two persons have been taken into custody, and investigations are underway.
