With BJP closing in on the 200-seat mark in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday urged Trinamool Congress workers not to lose heart, insisting the counting is far from over and alleging a coordinated bid to manipulate the results.
In a video message to party workers, Banerjee claimed the TMC is leading in 170 seats but said data from 70 to 100 of those constituencies is being suppressed. “A false narrative is being spread,” she alleged, accusing the Election Commission and the BJP of conspiring against her party.
She also flagged alleged irregularities at multiple counting centres, claiming the process had been halted after the first two or three rounds at several locations. “In Kalyani, we have caught seven machines with severe anomalies,” she said.
Banerjee further alleged that central forces were being used to harass TMC workers and that party offices were being “forcibly captured and vandalised” in seats where Trinamool had a strong presence.
Despite the BJP’s commanding lead, Banerjee asked her candidates and counting agents to hold their ground. “Fight like tigers,” she urged, insisting the final outcome was still not sealed.
The BJP, leading across North Bengal and making unexpected inroads in Kolkata and Howrah, is on course for a landslide.
