Khurda: A tense night unfolded in Khordha district on Tuesday when a group of women allegedly clashed with police in Kurumi village under Tangi police station limits.
Police had arrived at the village to arrest a man accused in a case, but the move sparked resistance. Villagers, mostly women, reportedly blocked officials and soon began pelting stones, leaving several policemen injured.
In retaliation and claiming self-defence, police resorted to what they described as a "soft lathi charge." Around 10 to 12 women sustained injuries, with one reported to be serious.
The incident has heightened tensions in the area, prompting authorities to maintain strict vigil. Investigations continue into the late-night confrontation.
