Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been addressing public rallies in the state of West Bengal ahead of the assembly elections, which start on 23rd April.
"Jalpaiguri was known for tea, timber and tourism. However, Mamata ji added another T (tears) to it. Mamata's gundas inflicted atrocities on karyakartas of the BJP. After the elections, we will ensure they are shown their place," Shah said.
The Union Home Minister urged the people to make the BJP win on all the assembly constituency seats in Jalpaiguri, marking a beginning to the end of the TMC regime.
Wages of tea garden workers will be increased
Shah accused the Mamata government of destroying the tea garden industry and not increasing the wages of tea garden workers. He promised that if the BJP comes to power in the state, the wages of tea garden workers will be increased. "The tea garden industry is being destroyed. The wages of tea garden workers are not being increased. Besides, they haven't been given the land rights. I promise that we will ensure Rs 500 wages for tea garden workers after forming the government in 2.5 years. Every tea garden worker will be given land pattas, making them landowners," Shah promised.
The tourist sector in the state will be given a boost
To provide a much-needed boost to the tourism industry in the state, Shah also promised to develop Darjeeling into a premier adventure heritage site and set it up as a central hub for tourism. "We will develop the entire North Bengal by constructing a very large national highway from Darjeeling to the Sundarbans," Shah said.

He said that fake cases filed by the Mamata government against people from the Gorkha community will be withdrawn. Shah added that the Rajbanshi language, which is spoken in parts of West Bengal, will be added to the 8th schedule of the Constitution by the BJP.
A BJP government would ensure women's safety in West Bengal: Shah
Addressing another rally in Falakata, West Bengal, on Wednesday, Shah attacked the TCM government for the cases of violence against women in the state. He said that once the BJP forms the government in the state, women of West Bengal will be able to move freely throughout, even late at night.
"Mothers and sisters are not safe anywhere in Bengal. For years, TMC infiltrators kept raping in Sandeshkhali, and Mamata Banerjee said nothing. Durgapur Medical College, RG Kar, Calcutta Law College… Many types of atrocities happened against mothers and sisters, but not even a drop of water stirred in Mamata Banerjee's belly. Mamata Didi should feel ashamed; being a woman, Mamata Didi says that mothers and sisters should not step out of the house after 7 PM," Shah said.
No one will be allowed to perform four marriages: Shah
Shah said that after forming a government in the state, the BJP will ensure that no one is allowed to perform four marriages, and the cases of Love Jihad will also be dealt with strictly. He said that women and unemployed youth in the state will be provided an allowance of ₹3000 per month. He added that the bus ride will be made free for all women across the state.
Accusing the Mamata government of being involved in corruption worth thousands of crores, Shah said that after coming to power in the state, the BJP will make sure that people's money is returned with interest.
Shah also addressed a rally at Tufanganj, West Bengal, today, where he promised that if the BJP wins the election in the state, it will establish the Narayani Battalion in the State Reserve Police under the name of the renowned Narayani Sena. He promised to build museums in Tufanganj to preserve and promote the rich culture of West Bengal.
