On 7th April, an Assam Police team reportedly reached Congress-ruled Telangana's Hyderabad to Pawan Khera. The Congress leader is accused by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma of forgery and defamation regarding the latter's citizenship.

A purported video showing Pawan Khera hiding his face inside a car from media cameras has surfaced online, intensifying speculation that Khera is hiding in Congress-ruled Telangana out of fear of being arrested.

Sharing the video on X, the Delhi BJP took a jibe at Pawan Khera. "Why the need to sneak away and escape like this? Who said anything about becoming a hero?"

On Tuesday, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that Pawan Khera has fled to Hyderabad while the Assam Police team visited the Congress spokesperson's Delhi residence in the Nizamuddin area.

As per reports, a team of Assam police has reached Hyderabad searching for Khera. Hyderabad police have already put up barricades and placed security outside the residence of Pawan Khera and his wife Neelima’s house in Banjara hills.

Yesterday, Assam Police searched Pawan Khera’s residence in Delhi, but he was not there. The cops seized some evidence from the house during the search.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had indicated that action would be taken against Khera. Sharing a video on X with the caption "Khera ka banega peda," the CM had said, "Rahul Gandhi is mad. Pawan Khera is even more mad than him. I am going to take very strong action against him. I will 'turn Khera into peda.'"

It is worth noting that under the leadership of Pawan Khera, the Assam Congress had levelled several serious allegations against the Chief Minister's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, including claims that she possessed three passports, owns properties in Dubai, and has stashed ₹52,000 crore in the USA. Khera had presented the copies of passports and documents supporting his allegations. However, all these documents have been found to be faked, as most of the original documents have been located by the BJP. Congress doctored those documents to insert the CM’s wife’s name and details to level the allegations.

The allegations have been denied by both Riniki Sarma and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. In a press conference on Monday, CM Sarma, debunked the lies peddled by the Congress party about his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma. He highlighted that the targeting of his wife by the grand old party, ahead of the Assam Vidhan Sabha election, had a Pakistani link.

"The Pakistani link to the yesterday's press conference has also now become very very apparent. The entire material of the press conference which has taken place yesterday was supplied from a Pakistani social media group," the Assam CM pointed out.

He announced that both criminal and civil defamation cases have been filed against Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera for raising the issue in public using fraud documents to influence the outcome of the election.
