On 15th April (Wednesday), Bharatiya Janata Party leader and social activist, Rallagudem Ramakrishna Reddy was discovered dead at his home under mysterious circumstances.

The incident occurred in the Rangareddy district of Telangana inside the boundaries of the Medipally police station. Authorities are treating the case as suspicious. Ramakrishna was well-known for continuously raising public concerns.

A few months ago, he was instrumental in exposing a ₹150-crore corruption scandal of the Congress government. Many people are apprehensive following his unexpected demise. An inquiry is in progress after police filed a suspicious death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

Ten personnel, including a deputy commissioner, were suspended by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner after an investigation into the grave allegations. Serious inconsistencies in engineering and sanitation projects were found, which raised questions about the management of public monies. Officials stated that payments were cleared without enough verification and a number of works were either not completed or duplicated.

The issue dates back to before Badangpet Municipality was combined with GHMC in December of last year. Investigators observed that important documents and files pertaining to the assignments did not exist, suggesting potential efforts to conceal proof of misconduct. The vigilance team discovered several procedural infractions by looking through papers, bills, and measuring books.

It was uncovered that money had been misappropriated without the council’s or the appointed special officer’s consent. Additionally, reports noted that approvals were given arbitrarily and that proposals for previously finished projects were relaunched.
