Bomb hurled at oil tanker in Puri city, major disaster averted
Puri:A major disaster was averted Friday night Puri as the bomb that was hurled at an oil tanker parked at Khuntia Petrol Pump did not explode.
Reportedly, the incident occurred at around 11 pm in the night at the petrol pump situated in Medical Chhak when a group of people walked in allegedly trying to vandalise the place. They claimed that the workers of the petrol pump used to trick the public by not filling their vehicle tanks with the required amount of fuel against the money paid.
They shouted in unison and even hurled eggs at the petrol pump. Without keeping safety in mind, they allegedly threw a bomb at an oil tanker parked near the petrol pump, which fortunately did not explode thus saving several lives. Had things gone as planned, many lives would have been in danger including those who had hurled the explosive.
When the bomb did not go off, the irate public tried to burn the tanker. However, their plans were foiled as police reached the spot and lathi-charged them, said sources.
In the clash between people and police, several media persons were injured who later went on to stage a road blockade in protest.
IIC of Sea Beach Police Station BR Senapati and Puri DC Lingaraj Mishra were also injured in the clash.
Notably, repeated allegations have been leveled against the workers of this petrol pump and it has been sealed twice.
