A shocking incident has been reported from Jhalaria Village, around 75 kms from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, where a 3-year-old boy fell into a deep borewell.
A massive rescue operation has been launched to pull him out safely.
The boy, identified as Bhagirath, is the son of Praveen Devasi, a shepherd from Gudanla village in Pali district of Rajasthan. He is the youngest of the three children. The family of 5 had come to Madhya Pradesh just 3 days earlier to graze their cattle.
According to the family, the borewell was covered by a lid with a stone placed on top. The stone was accidentally knocked off by a sheep.
Out of curiosity, Bhagirath opened the lid and started peeing into the borewell. The little boy lost his balance and fell into the 70-feet-deep hole.
Bhagirath's mother, Jattu Bai, who was nearby, saw it happening, but could not reach in time to save her son.
She shared that Bhagirath was walking just a couple of steps behind her. Suddenly, she heard him scream and turned back. She saw him falling into the open borewell. " I don't know how he is. I just want my child back in my arms."
A joint operation was launched by NDRF and SDRF units from Harda, Indore, and Ujjain to rescue the boy.
Every possible effort is being made to pull Bhagirath out; however, initial attempts have failed. SDRF is now digging a pit parallel to the borewell to reach the boy. Earlier, they tried to rescue the boy using ropes to pull him out, but it failed. One of the greatest challenges the team is facing is water accumulation inside the shaft, and they have to keep removing the water from time to time.
A dedicated medical team is on alert to ensure prompt medical attention to the child as soon as he is pulled out. Nearly 200 personnel are working together on the rescue operation.
We hope Bhagirath is rescued soon, and he unites with his family.
