She Was Just 2. Left Alone on a Highway - They Called Her 'Bad Luck'?

A two-year-old child was found alone on the side of a highway in Madhya Pradesh. A small child who is too young to understand what fear is was left at an unfamiliar place.

On April 18, a call was received on Dial-112, reporting a small child seen alone on National Highway-552 in Sheopur’s Soinkalan area. When the police reached the spot, they found the toddler sitting alone. She was too young to understand why she had been left there.

She was taken for a medical check-up and the Child Welfare Committee stepped in to take care of her.

The police then started their investigation. A case was filed for leaving a child in a dangerous situation. Using CCTV footage, they began to trace the vehicle that left the baby on the highway.

Soon, they were able to track the vehicle that was used to leave the child. This led them to Bhopal, where they tracked the accused. As the investigation progressed, the accused were identified as a businessman from Guna and his wife.

They had a strange and disturbing explanation. During the interrogation, they said that the child had brought bad luck into their lives. Their business was struggling and things weren’t going well in their life. And they believed that the little child’s presence was the cause behind it.

It’s difficult to process such reasoning.

Blaming a toddler for life’s uncertainties? This is something far beyond superstition.

In addition to this, there was a bigger question waiting - How did the child come into their lives in the first place?

The Deeper Truth

It started as a crime of abandonment, but as the case progressed, it began to reveal a more complex reality.

Authorities uncovered that the couple had allegedly purchased the child for Rs. 1 Lakh through an illegal network in Indore. It was presented as an adoption.

Things were getting clearer as the case progressed.

The story was no longer just about the couple and their act. It pointed towards a system where children can be bought and placed into homes without any security.

Investigations say that such networks usually operate privately. In many instances, these arrangements are hidden behind decent languages like adoption and guardianship.

Another Side of the Story

As the investigation continued, another detail came out that made the case even more disturbing.

A woman from Bhopal came into the picture, who said that she had worked as the child’s nanny. She told police that the couple used to beat the child. She shared that she was being paid ₹20,000 a month to take care of the child, but she had stopped working because she was not being paid.

She also said that the couple never told her how the child came into their lives. This raised even more questions.

Police are still trying to find the nexus behind such illegal adoptions. At the same time, they are making sure the child is safe in a government-run home.
