The death toll in the Assam floods has increased sharply to 95 from 89 in the last 24 hours, with six fatalities recorded from across districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Wednesday.
Fresh flooding has been witnessed, and flood warnings have been issued in several districts as heavy rainfall continues to batter several parts of the state.
According to the official figures, six more lives were lost during the period, including casualties reported from Golaghat, Sivasagar, Biswanath and Morigaon districts.
A total of 14 districts—Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Charaideo, Kamrup (Metro), Jorhat, Dhemaji, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Darrang, Karbi Anglong and Udalguri—are currently affected by the floods. The disaster has impacted 38 revenue circles and submerged 563 villages, leaving around 1,60,653 people affected across the state.
Extensive damage has also been reported in the agricultural sector, with over 16,951 hectares of crop area inundated. The situation remains particularly concerning in low-lying and riverine regions where water levels continue to fluctuate.

Officials confirmed that the Dhansiri River at Numaligarh is flowing above the danger level, raising fears of further flooding if rainfall persists.
Urban flooding has also added to the crisis, with four districts—Kamrup metropolitan, Kamrup, Morigaon and Jorhat—reporting waterlogging.
The overall flood situation continues to remain volatile, with authorities maintaining close surveillance and urging residents to stay alert.
Relief operations are underway across affected districts, even as fresh rainfall warnings threaten to worsen conditions in the coming days.
