Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Saturday evening, landing at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Borjhar during his visit to Assam.
The senior BJP leader reached the city by a special flight from Ludhiana. After landing at the airport, Shah proceeded to the State Guest House in Guwahati, where he will stay during his visit.
Several senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party were present at the airport to receive the Union Home Minister. Among those who welcomed him were Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Member of Parliament Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
During his visit, Shah is scheduled to take part in a number of important programmes in the state.
On Sunday morning, the Union Home Minister will inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College in Guwahati, a new medical institution expected to strengthen healthcare services in the region.
Later in the day, Shah will also attend a special conference organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, where party workers and youth leaders from across the state are expected to participate.
