The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved a set of new measures to make the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system stronger and more effective in the state.
The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday.
As part of the new rules, the state will introduce a fully digital ILP system. Permits will now carry QR codes, which will be checked at entry points to stop the use of fake documents.
The government has also decided to bring in Aadhaar-based verification along with mandatory police checks for certain categories of permits. This is aimed at keeping a better track of people entering the state.
In another key move, stricter action will be taken against those who break ILP rules. People who overstay or violate the permit conditions may face heavier penalties, and repeat offenders could be barred from entering Arunachal Pradesh for up to two years.
To improve enforcement, the government will form District Task Forces across the state. Police officials will also carry out regular and surprise checks at gates, markets, and worksites.
Officials said the new steps are meant to make the system more transparent and better managed with the help of technology. The move comes after growing public demand for stronger implementation of ILP rules to protect local communities and regulate the entry of outsiders.
