India's Ashmita Chaliha delivered a strong performance at the Malaysia Masters, advancing to the women's singles quarterfinals with a straight-games victory over Malaysia's Goh Jin Wei at the Stadium Axiata Arena on Thursday.
Ashmita, who started her campaign from the qualifiers, was in full control throughout the match. She comfortably took the opening game 21-13 with confident shot-making and steady rallies.
In the second game, Goh Jin Wei tried to mount a comeback, but Ashmita maintained her composure and did not allow her opponent to gain momentum. She closed out the match 21-16, sealing the win in just 27 minutes.
With this result, Ashmita Chaliha reached the quarterfinal stage of a Super 500 tournament for the third time in her career, marking another significant milestone in her progress on the international circuit.
She will next face Denmark’s eighth seed Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt in the last eight. The Danish shuttler advanced after defeating India’s Anmol Kharb and Malvika Bansod in earlier rounds.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Indian challenge came to an end as other players bowed out in their respective matches.
Ashmita’s win has kept Indian hopes alive in the tournament as she moves into the crucial quarterfinal stage.
