The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science at Assam Down Town University successfully hosted Pharma Anveshan 2026, North East Zone, bringing together academicians, policymakers, industry experts and pharmacy students from across the region.

The event was organised under the aegis of the Pharmacy Council of India and served as a platform to promote innovation, research and collaboration in pharmaceutical sciences.

Addressing the gathering, H. He encouraged young researchers and pharmacy students to actively engage in innovation and research to strengthen the future of the pharmaceutical sector.

Pharma Anveshan is organised every year to mark the birth anniversary of Mahadeva Lal Shroff, widely regarded as the pioneer of pharmacy education in India. The event celebrates his legacy by encouraging young pharmacists and researchers to contribute to advancements in healthcare and pharmaceutical knowledge.

The inaugural session was attended by several eminent dignitaries, including the Chief Guest, Montu Kumar M. Patel, President of the Pharmacy Council of India. In his address, Patel stressed the need for stronger partnerships between academic institutions and the pharmaceutical industry to meet the challenges of modern healthcare.

He also spoke about reforms in pharmacy education, including a revised curriculum aligned with the National Education Policy that aims to make pharmacy studies more interdisciplinary and skill-oriented. According to him, new areas such as artificial intelligence, active pharmaceutical ingredients and medical device technologies are gradually being introduced into pharmacy programmes to prepare students for future healthcare needs.

Patel further shared that the Pharmacy Council of India is planning to introduce a single-window system for institutional processes to simplify regulatory procedures for pharmacy colleges across the country. He also mentioned that financial assistance of up to Rs 1 crore may be made available to institutions for improving infrastructure, laboratories and digital systems.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Saikat Sen, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science at Assam Down Town University and Organising Secretary of the event, said the platform plays a vital role in encouraging young researchers to present new ideas and build collaborations with industry professionals.

One of the highlights of the programme was the felicitation of members of the pharmacy fraternity who have successfully qualified in prestigious Group A Civil Service examinations in Assam and Mizoram. Their achievements were celebrated as an inspiration for pharmacy students.

During the event, the official newsletter of the Pharmacy Council of India titled "Pharmacy Today" was also launched. In addition, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science released its institutional magazine highlighting academic achievements, research work and student initiatives.

The programme also featured an Academia-Industry panel discussion, where experts discussed emerging trends, research opportunities and the future of pharmaceutical education in India.

Participants took part in various scientific sessions, poster presentations and innovation showcases throughout the day, demonstrating the growing research potential among young scholars from the North East.

The event concluded with a colourful valedictory session celebrating the cultural diversity of the region through traditional performances, followed by the announcement of winners from the scientific competitions.
