Assam Down Town University recently hosted a lively three-day Bihu workshop on its campus, bringing students closer to Assam's rich cultural roots.
The workshop was organised by the university's Music Club along with the Performing Arts programme under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. It saw enthusiastic participation from students who share a love for traditional Assamese music and dance.
The event began with an inaugural session led by Assistant Professor Deepjyoti Teron, who introduced noted folk artist Randhree Raj Saikia as the resource person. Speakers at the session highlighted the importance of keeping traditional art forms alive, especially among the younger generation.
Over the next three days, the campus echoed with the beats of the dhol and the rhythms of Bihu songs. Students learned about the history of Bihu Geet, practised dance steps, and got hands-on training in traditional musical elements like Dhol Badan. The sessions were interactive and gave participants a chance to deeply connect with Assam's folk traditions.
The workshop ended on a vibrant note with a live performance at the K Block of the university. Participants showcased what they had learned, impressing the audience with their energy and dedication.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates, marking a successful effort by the university to promote cultural learning and celebrate the spirit of Bihu.
