According to the report, a total of around 48,500 people have been impacted in the districts of Dhemaji , Dibrugarh, Biswanath, and Nalbari. Among them, Dhemaji has emerged as the worst-affected district, with more than 44,000 residents facing the brunt of the floods. Dibrugarh reported nearly 4,000 affected people, while Biswanath recorded around 500 individuals struggling due to rising water levels. So far, one death linked to floods has been reported this year.

In view of the worsening situation, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, visited flood-hit areas in Dhemaji. The ministers conducted an aerial survey to assess the scale of damage and later held discussions with Assam government officials and ministers.

After reviewing the ground situation, Chouhan described the destruction as extensive. He pointed out that many houses have been damaged, roads have been washed away, electricity infrastructure has been severely affected, agricultural fields have gone underwater, and livestock losses have been reported.

The report stated that the immediate focus is to bring normal life back on track and support affected families in rebuilding their lives. The Union Minister also assured that the Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands firmly with the people of Assam and will provide all necessary assistance.

Later, while addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Chouhan said that an initial report on the flood damage would soon be submitted to the Prime Minister. A more detailed assessment will follow to determine the full extent of losses.

The report further mentioned that the state government has already begun evaluating the damage and appreciated the quick response of local authorities, especially rescue teams, which helped prevent further loss of life.

Relief operations are currently being carried out using funds from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), while additional financial assistance will be provided through the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to both Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.

According to ASDMA, authorities have set up 13 relief camps and distribution centres across affected districts, where over 150 displaced people are currently taking shelter. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and SDRF have managed to save 713 people from various flood-hit locations in Dhemaji.

In the past 24 hours, essential supplies have been distributed among affected families, including large quantities of rice, pulses, salt, and mustard oil. Officials said relief distribution is ongoing and will continue as long as required.

The floods have submerged 179 villages and damaged more than 2,100 hectares of agricultural land. In addition, several embankments, roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure have suffered damage in different parts of the state.

The Brahmaputra River continues to flow above the danger level at Neamatighat, adding to concerns among residents living in low-lying areas. The floods have also affected over 82,000 domestic animals and poultry, further impacting rural livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Chouhan cautioned that weather conditions influenced by El Niño could worsen the situation in the coming months. He said that nearly 12 districts in Assam may face adverse conditions, making it important for both the government and people to stay prepared for future challenges.

With the situation still evolving, authorities remain on high alert, focusing on rescue, relief, and long-term recovery efforts.
