The Assam government has constituted a One-Man Commission of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of music legend Zubeen Garg in Singapore on September 19 last year.

The commission has been formed under Section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, through a notification issued by the Home and Political Department.

According to the notification, the inquiry will be headed by Justice Soumitra Saikia, Judge of the Gauhati High Court, who has been tasked with examining all facts and circumstances leading to the singer's death.

The terms of reference assigned to the commission include determining the sequence of events before and after the incident, examining whether there were any lapses, negligence, acts of omission or commission by any individual, authority or institution connected with the case, and ascertaining whether any external factors, including the possibility of foul play, conspiracy or other unlawful acts, contributed to or were linked with the incident.
