In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Assam government on Monday transferred and reassigned several principals and senior faculty members across state-run medical colleges, with major changes at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and other key institutions.
Prof Dr Achyut Chandra Baishya, who was serving as principal-cum-chief superintendent of GMCH, has been transferred and posted in the same capacity at Nalbari Medical College. In a reciprocal move, Prof Dr Babul Kumar Bezbaruah has been appointed as the new principal-cum-chief superintendent of GMCH.
Among other major changes, Prof Dr Bishnu Ram Das, principal-cum-chief superintendent of Nagaon Medical College, has been transferred and posted as Professor in the Department of Community Medicine (SPM) at Bongaigaon Medical College and Hospital. Meanwhile, Prof Dr Purujit Choudhury, a professor in the Department of Surgery at GMCH, has been given charge as principal-cum-chief superintendent of Nagaon Medical College.
At Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, Prof Dr Karuna Hazarika, who was serving as principal-cum-chief superintendent and professor in the Department of Radiology, has been relieved of her current responsibilities and appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences.
Prof Dr Gunajit Das, currently professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine (FSM) and superintendent at Dhubri Medical College, has been transferred and posted as principal-cum-chief superintendent of Tezpur Medical College and Hospital. In his place, Prof Dr Dina Raja has been appointed as the superintendent of Dhubri Medical College.
Further, Prof Dr Lahari Saikia, professor in the Department of Microbiology at Nagaon Medical College, has been entrusted with additional responsibilities as vice principal of the institute and principal-cum-chief superintendent of Morigaon Medical College.
Prof Dr Bijit Kumar Duara, professor in the Department of Radiology at GMCH, has been given charge as principal-cum-chief superintendent of Tamulpur Medical College and Hospital.
Prof Dr Hironya Borah, professor in the Department of ENT and vice principal of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital, has been assigned as principal-cum-chief superintendent of Biswanath Medical College and Hospital.
Additionally, Prof Dr Shyamanta Barua, professor in the Department of Dermatology at Assam Medical College and Hospital, will hold additional charge as principal-cum-chief superintendent of Dhemaji Medical College and Hospital.
