Assam Finance, Environment & Forest, and Mines & Minerals Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah has ordered disciplinary action against officials of the Hajo Forest Range after reports surfaced alleging illegal collection of money and other irregular activities.
Taking to the social media platform X, Baruah said that the Assam Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, maintains a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and misconduct in public service.
As part of the action taken, Range Forest Officer Pranjal Barman has been transferred, while Forester Imtiaz Ahmed has been placed under suspension, pending further inquiry.
The minister stated that the measures were initiated immediately after the allegations of irregularities in the Hajo Forest Range came to the government's attention.
He further emphasised that no one is above the law, adding that any official found involved in misuse of power, facilitation of illegal activities, or corruption will face strict action irrespective of rank or position.
