An official working at the office of the North Lakhimpur range forest officer in Assam's Lakhimpur was detained on Friday by the Assam Police's anti-corruption cell after being caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe.

According to official inputs, the accused officer, identified as Shivashish Sandilya, was apprehended at his official residence while allegedly receiving Rs 12,000 from the owner of a dumper vehicle. The operation was carried out following specific inputs, leading to immediate action by the vigilance team.

Raids in Guwahati

Following his detention, the anti-corruption cell launched a wider investigation into the matter. Acting on further leads, officials conducted a raid at Sandilya’s residence in Guwahati’s Zoo Road area, where he reportedly stays in the Shantipur locality.

Sources further confirmed that another search operation was carried out at his residence in Lakhimpur, during which officials recovered Rs 5.68 lakh in cash. The recovery has raised additional questions regarding possible unaccounted assets linked to the accused officer.

Authorities said a detailed probe is underway to ascertain the source of the recovered cash and to determine whether more individuals are involved in the alleged bribery network. Further legal proceedings will follow based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
