Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced that Aadhaar-seeded payments under the Orunodoi scheme will resume from August 1, with 37.1 lakh women beneficiaries set to receive Rs 1,250 directly into their bank accounts.

Making the announcement, the Chief Minister said beneficiaries living in the state's flood-affected districts will receive double the monthly assistance, Rs 2,500, to help them recover from the recent floods.

"From August 1, we will resume Aadhaar-seeded Orunodoi transfers. 37.1 lakh mothers and sisters will receive Rs 1,250. For those in flood-affected areas, the amount will be Rs 2,500. We will also deploy Orunodoi Sahayaks to support beneficiaries who require assistance under the scheme," CM Sarma said.

The enhanced financial assistance will be provided to eligible beneficiaries in the flood-hit districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat.
Describing August as an important month for the state's welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister said several government schemes would gather momentum in the coming weeks.

CM Sarma made the announcement after holding a video conference with all Deputy Commissioners from Dispur to review the implementation of various welfare programmes.

He also announced that the distribution of application forms for the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes will begin during the first week of August.
According to the Chief Minister, the government aims to provide more than Rs 300 crore in financial assistance to over five lakh students in October under the two schemes to support their education.

In another major welfare announcement, Sarma said the state government will revive its subsidised ration scheme from August 10.

Under the scheme, more than 70 lakh beneficiaries will receive free food grains along with 1 kg of masur dal and 1 kg of sugar by paying Rs 100 per ration card.

The Chief Minister directed district administrations to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are covered under government welfare schemes and that people receive benefits without unnecessary delays.

Launched in 2020, the Orunodoi scheme is one of the Assam government's flagship welfare programmes. It provides monthly financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to low-income households, with women designated as the primary beneficiaries.
