Assam Polls: Bidisha Neog Concedes Defeat in Jalukbari, Congratulates Himanta Biswa Sarma

Congress candidate Bidisha Neog has gracefully accepted her defeat in the Jalukbari constituency and extended congratulations to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In a message shared on Facebook, Neog said she respects the mandate given by the people of Jalukbari and accepted the result with humility. She also congratulated Sarma on his victory.

“Respecting the mandate given by the people of the sacred Kamakhya city, Jalukbari constituency, I humbly accept my defeat and extend my heartfelt congratulations to the winning candidate, respected Himanta Biswa Sarma. This electoral journey was not just a political path for me; it was a deeply meaningful experience of receiving the love, blessings, and trust of every person of Jalukbari,” she wrote.

“I had promised that I would stand with the people of Jalukbari. I have been with you, I am with you, and I will always remain with you,” she added.

“Victory and defeat will come and go, but the bond built with the people will never end,” Neog further said.

According to the latest counting report from ECI, Jalukbari constituency, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmah secured 1,12,186 votes, winning by a huge margin of 80,235 votes, underlining a one-sided contest throughout the counting process.

His nearest rival, Bidisha Neog of the Indian National Congress, managed 31,951 votes, but remained far behind in the early rounds.

Independent candidate Dipika Das finished with 2,203 votes, while NOTA accounted for 3,070 votes, reflecting a minimal protest vote share in the constituency.
