As voting is underway across Assam for the 2026 Assembly elections, senior Congress leaders stepped up their outreach with messages urging people to exercise their democratic rights.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said a visible shift is taking place in the state, claiming that the last decade has seen Assam's unity weaken and its social fabric come under strain. In a message posted on social media, he alleged that divisive politics and misinformation had taken a toll on the state's progress.

Calling it a crucial moment, Kharge urged voters to come together and reject what he described as the politics of division and neglect. He appealed to the people to vote for unity, welfare, and genuine development, adding that their mandate could help restore Assam's pride and future. He also made a special appeal to first-time voters, encouraging them to step out and participate actively in shaping the state's direction.

Also, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed the people of Assamin a message, urging them to take part wholeheartedly in what she described as the "festival of democracy."

She called on voters to cast their ballots for the protection of their land, culture, and identity, and to secure a better future. Stressing the need for a people-centric government, Priyanka Gandhi said the citizens deserve leadership that works solely for their welfare and empowerment.
