Voting for the Assam Assembly elections 2026 began peacefully at 7 AM on Thursday, even as adverse weather swept across the state.
According to the Election Commission, by 9 AM, voter turnout across Assam's 126 constituencies had reached 17.87 per cent. In Nagaon district, turnout was 18.38 per cent, with Dhing recording 16.90 per cent, Rupahi 18.22 percent, Kaliabor 18.87 per cent, Samaguri 17.51 per cent, Barhampur 16.24 percent, Nagaon-Batadrava 17.49 per cent, and Raha 17.84 percent.
By 9:30 AM, several districts had shown steady participation, with Bajali at 17.40 percent, Baksa 16.35 percent, Barpeta 16.56 percent, Biswanath 18.42 percent, Bongaigaon 18.23 percent, Cachar 18.08 percent, Charaideo 18.88 percent, Chirang 16.65 percent, Darrang 19.74 percent, Dhemaji 17.29 percent, Dhubri 18.16 percent, Dibrugarh 17.88 percent, Dima Hasao 17.31 percent, Goalpara 19.66 percent, Golaghat 18.58 percent, Hailakandi 16.60 percent, Hojai 19.06 percent, Jorhat 19.01 percent, Kamrup 18.80 percent, Kamrup Metro 15.36 percent, Karbi Anglong 15.60 percent, Kokrajhar 16.26 percent, Lakhimpur 17.38 percent, Majuli 20.03 percent, Morigaon 19.96 percent, Nalbari 16.26 percent, Sivasagar 18.36 percent, Sonitpur 18.68 percent, South Salmara-Mankachar 18.65 percent, Sribhumi 18.38 percent, Tamulpur 15.32 percent, Tinsukia 17.75 percent, Udalguri 17.35 percent, and West Karbi Anglong 15.36 percent.
These figures reflect the first two hours of polling from 7 to 9 AM. Polling is ongoing across Assam, with authorities ensuring smooth and fair voting as turnout is expected to rise through the day.
