Assam Rejects Dynastic Politics, Voters Back BJP as Tejasvi Surya Launches Campaigns

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on April 4 claimed that the people of Assam are increasingly rejecting decades of Congress-led dynastic politics and are showing strong support for the ruling BJP ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections 2026.

Speaking at election rallies in Goalpara West and Dispur, Surya said the party is witnessing a “visible one-sided wave” across both urban and rural constituencies. “After years of nepotism and corruption under Congress, Assam’s citizens are decisively backing the BJP,” he stated.

The MP highlighted the developmental strides made under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pointing to improved infrastructure, better road networks, and expanded education and employment opportunities as key drivers of public confidence.

Surya also emphasised initiatives targeted at women, crediting them for becoming a major support base for the BJP. Programs such as the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Asoni, which has helped over 5.5 lakh girl students pursue higher education, and the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, which has financially assisted lakhs of women entrepreneurs, were cited as transformative efforts for economic empowerment and dignity.

Turning to education, Surya recalled how many students from Assam previously had to migrate to Bengaluru for better opportunities. He asserted that the state is now becoming an education hub in the Northeast with institutions like IIT, IIM, NLU, new medical colleges, and a skill university being established.

He further claimed that over 1.6 lakh government jobs have been created through transparent, merit-based recruitment, alongside youth-focused skill and education programs. “Assam has moved from unrest to aspiration, and from insurgency to industry. The next five years will further accelerate this growth trajectory,” Surya added.

Criticising the Congress, Surya said that years of “neglect and stagnation” have left the electorate seeking change. “There is a clear mood on the ground for accountable governance, development, and new opportunities,” he said.
