Young Assam cricketer Dipjyoti Saikia has brought pride to the state after receiving the prestigious M.A. Chidambaram Trophy at the annual BCCI Naman Awards held in New Delhi on March 15.

The promising bowler from Assam was recognised for finishing as the highest wicket-taker in the U-23 Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy 2024–25 (Plate Group). Representing the Assam Cricket Association, Saikia delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, claiming 27 wickets in six matches with an economy rate of 2.75. His campaign also included two remarkable five-wicket hauls in an innings.

Saikia’s consistent performances played a crucial role in Assam’s strong showing in the domestic competition and earned him national recognition at one of Indian cricket’s most prestigious award ceremonies. Cricket officials in the state hailed the achievement as a proud moment for Assam’s sporting community.

Congratulating the young cricketer, Assam Cricket Association president Taranga Gogoi and secretary Sanatan Das, along with members of the ACA Apex Council, praised Saikia’s dedication and hard work. They said the honour reflects his discipline and commitment to the game and expressed hope that his success would inspire aspiring cricketers across Assam.

The ACA also extended its best wishes to the talented bowler for continued success in his career, expressing confidence that he will achieve greater milestones in the years to come.

BCCI Celebrates India’s World Cup Triumphs

The award ceremony, organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, also celebrated India’s remarkable achievements in global cricket over recent years. During the event, players from five Indian teams that secured World Cup victories were felicitated for their historic triumphs.

These included India’s title-winning campaigns in the Under-19 Women’s World Cup, the ICC Champions Trophy, the Under-19 Men’s World Cup, the Women’s ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup.

The Indian U-19 Women’s team, captained by Niki Prasad, defeated South Africa in the final of the 2025 tournament, while the Under-19 Men’s side lifted the World Cup earlier this year under the leadership of Ayush Mhatre. The senior men’s team, led by Rohit Sharma, had previously secured the Champions Trophy, while the women’s national side under Harmanpreet Kaur made history by clinching the Women’s ODI World Cup.

More recently, India captured its third T20 World Cup title after defeating New Zealand in the final, further highlighting the country’s growing dominance in world cricket.

Lifetime Honours for Indian Cricket Legends

During the ceremony, the BCCI also presented the Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award its highest honour to former India captain Rahul Dravid and former BCCI president Roger Binny for their immense contributions to Indian cricket. Legendary women’s cricketer Mithali Raj was also recognised with the BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for Women.

Among the other major honours, Indian star batter Shubman Gill received the Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer (Men) for the 2024–25 season, while Smriti Mandhana secured the same honour in the women’s category for the fifth time in her career.

The Naman Awards ceremony showcased the depth of cricketing talent in India, celebrating achievements across international and domestic cricket. For Assam, however, the spotlight firmly remained on Dipjyoti Saikia, whose outstanding performance has placed the state firmly on the national cricketing map.
