BJP Denies Tickets to Five MLAs Ahead of Assam Polls

Ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has denied tickets to five sitting MLAs.

Among those who will not be contesting this time are Atul Bora from Dispur, Promod Barthakur from Biswanath, Amiya Kumar Bhuyan from Bihpuria, Hemang Thakuria from Palasbari, and Prashant Phukan from Dibrugarh.

Former Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi will contest from Dispur, while Himangshu Shekhar Baishya has been given the ticket for Palasbari.

Notably, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to release its list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections this evening. The BJP’s parliamentary committee will give the final approval for the names. Assam is scheduled to go to the polls on April 9, with vote counting set for May 4.
