At the GMCH campus, the Chief Minister inspected the proposed site of the upcoming 3,000-bed hospital, a major project expected to significantly expand the state’s healthcare capacity. Officials said the facility is being planned as a state-of-the-art institution to boost patient care, medical education, and advanced research.

During the visit, Director of Medical Education Dr Manoj Choudhury, GMCH Principal Dr Achyut Baishya and senior officials briefed Sarma on the planning, design, and implementation roadmap. Reviewing the progress, the Chief Minister stressed the need for timely execution so that the project emerges as a landmark addition to Assam’s healthcare ecosystem.

Later, Sarma visited PMCH to assess the ongoing construction of a 500-bed modern hospital and chaired a review meeting with Health Department officials, hospital authorities and representatives of the executing agency.

Discussions focused on the status of civil works, timely handover of completed facilities, and development of key infrastructure, including the boundary wall, faculty quarters and sports facilities. The Chief Minister directed all stakeholders to adhere to deadlines while maintaining “the highest standards of quality, transparency and accountability.”

Emphasising the broader vision, Sarma stated that world-class medical infrastructure is essential for ensuring accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for citizens. He called for coordinated efforts among departments and agencies to expedite project completion and strengthen healthcare delivery across Assam.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also held interactions with distinguished personalities from various fields at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur. According to an official statement, the discussions centred on public welfare, inclusive development and advancing the vision of a self-reliant Assam.
