With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leading in Assam as counting proceeds, according to the latest Election Commission trends, the Congress seems to have accepted defeat.
The grand old party, having slipped behind on counting day, has apparently cancelled celebration plans, an electrician called to the Assam Congress headquarters at Rajiv Bhawan told PTI.
“The party had ordered decorations, but it won't happen now. They had ordered lights, LED, etc. for three days,” said Somnath Das, who has been told to return, indicating the Congress has accepted defeat.
Notably, the BJP is currently leading in 79 seats alone, while alliance partners Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) are pulling in 10 and 8 seats respectively.
The Congress currently leads in 25 seats, with Raijor Dal leading in two, while the Assam Jatiya Parishad is not leading in any of the seats contested.
