Corruption in Nalbari Agriculture Dept: Scheme Funds Allegedly Looted

PratidinTime 1 month ago

A major corruption allegation has surfaced at the District Agriculture Office in Assam's Nalbari, with officials from the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell visiting the office on Sunday morning to investigate the matter.

The probe follows complaints of large-scale irregularities in the distribution of funds under the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) scheme during the last financial year. According to sources, serious violations were reported in the selection of beneficiaries and disbursement of funds.

In connection with the case, Dinesh Goswami, president of Chengnoi Farmer Producer Company (FPC), has already been arrested and sent to custody. However, complainants allege that Goswami acted merely as a middleman in a larger network.

As per the allegations, funds meant for beneficiaries were first credited to their accounts, but a large portion of the money was later taken back through various means and misappropriated.

Further irregularities have also been reported in beneficiary selection, with claims that multiple members from the same family were listed as beneficiaries under the scheme.

The complaints were initially filed by five individuals from Chengnoi with the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell. Officials from the vigilance team recently arrived at the Nalbari Agriculture Office from Guwahati to conduct hearings and examine records.

Sources indicate that the ongoing investigation has already uncovered several crucial details related to the alleged scam.

Further probe is on.
