Three young women lost their lives after a speeding vehicle rammed into a stationary truck in the Mathgharia, Guwahati area on Sunday early morning around 4 a.m.
The incident took place near the gate of a hospital at Mathgharia, where a truck was reportedly parked by the roadside. According to initial information, a vehicle bearing registration number AS01GP0562 crashed into the stationary truck with tremendous force.
The impact of the collision was so severe that all three women inside the vehicle died on the spot.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the accident and is currently absconding. Police have launched a search operation to trace him.
The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the morgue of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination.
The identities of two of the deceased have been established. The victims have been identified as Puja Saha from Goalpara and Akanksha Saikia from Sivasagar.
Akanksha Saikia was reportedly employed at Royal Global University. She hailed from Sapekhati in Sonari. The identity of the third victim is yet to be confirmed.
