To celebrate the spirit of adventure, environmental stewardship, and youth engagement, a special meeting and felicitation programme was organised by Assam Mountaineering Association (AMA) in Guwahati on Tuesday, bringing together eminent dignitaries, mountaineers, conservationists, and young trainees.
The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished personalities, including Rajesh Mazumdar, Manjit Bhuyan, retired IAS officer Dhruva Hazarika, Ankur Bharali, former Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, and Siddhartha Sankar Dey, underscoring the importance of the occasion.
A major highlight of the programme was the felicitation of members of an Everest Expedition team, whose members shared first-hand accounts of their challenging yet historic journey to the world’s highest peak. Their narratives of endurance, resilience, and teamwork drew appreciation from the audience.
Adding to the significance of the event, noted producer Jayanta Goswami was honoured for his acclaimed documentary Arohan, which captures the essence of mountaineering and human determination. The screening of the documentary received an enthusiastic response, with viewers applauding its powerful storytelling and visual depth.
Speakers at the event lauded the organisation’s sustained efforts in promoting high-altitude adventure activities, nurturing youth participation, and advancing environmental awareness in the region. The programme also featured the formal distribution of Life Member ID cards, marking a step towards strengthening the organisation’s community network.
In recognition of conservation efforts, the Gibbon Sanctuary Conservation Team was felicitated for its dedicated work in wildlife protection and ecological preservation, highlighting the event’s focus on environmental responsibility alongside adventure.
Certificates were awarded to participants of various training programmes and expeditions, including the Tripura Trekking Expedition, Local Adventure Training initiatives, Royal Global University Training Programme, and Children Adventure Orientation Camp, reflecting a broad commitment to skill-building and experiential learning among youth.
In his address, the President of the organisation emphasised the critical role of adventure education in shaping leadership qualities and encouraging young individuals to engage with nature through outdoor exploration.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mriganka Sarmah, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, and organisers for contributing to the success of the event.
