The GST department launched a major operation on Friday in the Chatribari area of Guwahati, in connection with an alleged tax evasion case.
According to sources, officials carried out searches at the residence of businessman Shiva Harlalka. The ongoing investigation is linked to suspected tax evasion of around Rs 10 crore, allegedly through his business activities.
Harlalka is reportedly a contractor associated with Assam government departments, including PWD and Water Resources.
Officials said the operation has been continuing for the past four days as part of a wider investigation into financial irregularities.
Another businessman, Mukesh Jhalan, is also under the scanner in connection with the case. Jhalan is associated with infrastructure contracts and has reportedly worked in multiple states.
Sources also claimed that Jhalan had previously faced legal action in connection with corruption allegations. He is linked to a firm named Sadguru Engineers and Allied Services, which is also being examined as part of the ongoing probe.
