In a late-night operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended a man at GuwahatiRailway Station for allegedly carrying a firearm and live ammunition.
According to sources, the incident took place around 11:20 PM when a GRP team intercepted three individuals entering the station premises from the Paltan Bazar side during routine checking. Upon searching them, police recovered a .32 mm revolver along with 16 rounds of live ammunition from one of the individuals.
The accused has been identified as Debia Tara, a resident of Tepi Tipi village under Yazali Police Station in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. He was immediately taken into custody for further questioning.
Police said the two other persons accompanying him are also being questioned to determine their role, if any, in the matter. Authorities are trying to find out the source of the weapon and the reason for bringing it to Guwahati.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
