The Crime Branch of the Guwahati Police(CGPD) has busted an human trafficking racket operating in the city, following a complaint received on April 19, 2026. The operation exposed a network allegedly involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, wrongful confinement, assault, and extortion.
According to report, the accused lured victims through online job platforms by offering fake employment opportunities. Once trapped, the victims were allegedly coerced into commercial sexual activities and later blackmailed using their private photos and videos.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested three individuals, including two women. During the raid, authorities seized five mobile phones, a laptop, more than 70 SIM cards, bundles of contraceptives, and approximately Rs 3.8 lakh in cash.
Police sources said the scale of the operation indicates a well-organised network, and further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved and trace possible links beyond the city.
