AssamChief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced a Rs 4,382 crore plan to transform Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said the project will completely change GMCH and turn it into one of India's top healthcare campuses with modern facilities.

"Wait till you see the new GMCH," CM Sarma wrote, calling the upgrade a big step forward for Assam's healthcare system and its people.

The plan aims to improve the hospital's buildings, add better treatment facilities, and increase its capacity to serve more patients.

GMCH treats thousands of patients every day from across Assam and nearby states. The new project is expected to reduce pressure on the hospital and improve services for the public.

More details about the project are likely to be shared in the coming days.
