Guwahati: Heavy rainfall has once again disrupted normal life in Guwahati, with severe waterlogging reported at 9th Mile and 10th Mile, prompting authorities to divert traffic in the affected areas.
According to officials, light motor vehicles (LMVs) heading towards Guwahati are being diverted at Digaru, while vehicles exiting the city are rerouted from the Koinadhora point. Commuters travelling out of Guwahati have been advised to take the Narengi route as an alternative to avoid congestion and waterlogged stretches.
The situation comes after a spell of intense rainfall on Saturday evening left several parts of the city grappling with artificial flooding, a recurring issue during the monsoon season. Low-lying areas were particularly affected, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters alike.
Adding to concerns, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, warning of heavy rainfall in the next few hours. Weather forecasts indicate a more than 50 per cent chance of continued rainfall, raising fears of further water accumulation and traffic disruptions.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to remain cautious while travelling. Residents have also been advised to avoid waterlogged areas and follow official traffic advisories until conditions improve.
