The situation has reportedly worsened, with water levels rising to around six to seven feet at several points along the highway. The flooding has affected stretches of NH-27 and NH-7, leaving large portions of the road under water.
Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the affected area and used boats to survey the situation.
The waterlogging has also trapped a bus carrying school students. The situation reportedly led to distress among the students as the vehicle became stranded amid the floodwater.
A goods-laden truck also broke down in the middle of the highway, further worsening the situation and obstructing vehicular movement.
As a result, traffic towards Shillong and Upper Assam has been severely affected, with long queues of vehicles building up along the flooded highway.
The disruption, however, is not limited to Jorabat. Several parts of Guwahati city have also reported waterlogging
With Jorabat witnessing what is being described as the highest waterlogging of the year so far, commuters have been advised to reconsider travelling through the area unless necessary.
