Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday met Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda in New Delhi and sought his guidance on a series of ambitious healthcare initiatives aimed at strengthening the state's medical infrastructure and promoting Assam as a medical tourism hub.

After the meeting, Sarma took to the social media platform X and expressed gratitude to Nadda for his contributions to strengthening the BJP in Assam during his tenure as the party's national president, and for his role in the state's electoral performance.

"Hon'ble Union Minister Shri J.P. Nadda ji has been instrumental in strengthening the BJP in Assam during his tenure as the Rashtriya Adhyaksh and has played a key role in the Assam elections," Sarma said.

The Chief Minister said he also discussed Assam's plans for major expansion in the healthcare sector and sought the Centre's guidance in implementing key initiatives.

"Today, as I met him in Delhi, I thanked him for his efforts and sought his guidance to implement the ambitious health sector schemes which we are undertaking in the State, from medical colleges to proton beam therapy to doctor intake, etc. and build Assam as a preferred hub of medical tourism," he added.

According to the state government, Assam is currently focusing on expanding its healthcare infrastructure through new medical colleges, improved specialist treatment facilities, and increased intake of doctors and medical professionals.

The government is also working to position Assam as a healthcare destination for the Northeast and neighbouring regions, with medical tourism forming an important part of its long-term development vision.
