How PM Modi's West Bengal Victory Remark Six Months Ago : 'River Ganga Flows To Bengal Via Bihar

PratidinTime 2 weeks ago

Months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi linked the political momentum in Bihar to future gains in West Bengal, early counting trends in the state suggest a significant shift on the ground.

During his address following the BJP’s strong performance in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had drawn a symbolic connection between the two states, suggesting that political momentum in Bihar could influence developments in West Bengal as well. He referred to the flow of the Ganga from Bihar to Bengal while expressing confidence in the party’s expanding reach.

The National Democratic Alliance secured a sweeping victory in Bihar, winning more than 202 of the 243 seats, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party in the state. The result was widely seen as a major boost for the ruling alliance.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister also praised party workers for their role in the outcome, describing them as the backbone of the organisation and attributing the success to their efforts on the ground.

He further referred to the opposition’s defeat in Bihar, using it to appeal for similar political change in West Bengal, urging voters to bring about a shift in leadership.

At the same time, he said the electoral outcome in Bihar would energise party workers not just in eastern India, but also in other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, during ongoing counting trends in West Bengal, the BJP was shown leading in a significant number of constituencies, while the Trinamool Congress remained ahead in others, indicating a closely contested political scenario.

As results continue to emerge, supporters of both parties have gathered in different locations, with the atmosphere becoming increasingly charged. The final picture is still evolving as counting progresses across the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is currently leading in several constituencies dominated by the Matua community, a politically significant region spread across parts of North 24 Parganas, Nadia, and South 24 Parganas. These areas, which collectively account for a substantial number of seats, are often seen as influential in shaping the overall outcome in the state.

In Gaighata, BJP candidate Subrata Thakur is ahead in the counting process, while in Bagdah, Soma Thakur is maintaining a lead. The party is also performing strongly in Ranaghat Uttar Purba and Ranaghat Dakshin, where Ashim Biswas and Ashim Kumar Biswas are respectively in front as counting continues.

On the other hand, Trinamool Congress candidate and actor Soham Chakraborty is currently leading in the Karimpur constituency, adding to the closely watched contests in the region.
